Speaker Bio
Dr. Gyurkocza is a clinical investigator in the Clinical Research Division of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle, WA. His clinical expertise includes autologous and allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT), also, administration of cellular therapies such as chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells. His research has two main foci: improving access and outcomes of allogeneic HCT for patients with myeloid malignancies. While recent advances made HCT accessible to an expanded patient population, this procedure remains largely underutilized. In a recent study he conducted (Nath et al. AJH 2023) they found that with the widespread utilization of HLA-mismatched donors they were able to identify suitable donors for all patients and that the main barrier to allogeneic HCT among patients with AML was the lack of achievement of complete remission. Based on these findings he aims to develop conditioning regimens and other interventions for patients with AML not achieving remission.
